Burlington is replacing downtown parking pay stations and signs; its survey, and two other City reviews, are open this fall
Burlington's survey on downtown parking payment and signs runs to December 31, draft trails strategies are posted for comment, and a review of how fields and arenas are allocated is being validated before reports to Council in 2027.
The details
Downtown parking
The City of Burlington says it is time to replace its downtown parking pay stations and directional signs, and it is asking residents, visitors and downtown users how parking could be easier to find, access and pay for. The Parking Payment and Wayfinding Survey on the City's Get Involved Burlington site opened July 1 and closes December 31, 2026. The City says responses will be reported only in de-identified, aggregate form and may be included in a report to Council. The survey is available in print, in alternative formats or with communication support by contacting getinvolved@burlington.ca.
Trails plan
The Community Trails Strategy Update, which updates the City's first trails strategy from 2015, was originally scheduled to finish in 2025 but has been extended, with completion and adoption now expected by early 2027. The City is preparing six draft strategies built around what it calls good for statements, and has identified 10 trail focus areas where improvements are most needed. The first strategy, Good for the Future, was posted for review, and a draft strategy on new and emerging modes is also in the project's document library. According to the project timeline, September and October 2026 are for reviewing the draft strategies, followed by plan finalization and a report to Council between November 2026 and March 2027. The project also now includes an Indigenous trails framework developed with the Indigenous Advisory Circle to the Mayor and other partners.
Who gets the fields and arenas
The Sport Policy Review is updating the City's Facility Allocation Policy and creating two new policies, an Affiliate Group Policy and an Exclusive Use of Amenities Policy, to govern how limited recreation space is shared. The community survey has closed, and the City says a What We Heard report will be posted. The project timeline lists a validation session with community and user groups in fall 2026, a report to Council, listed as a CIP report, and a second phase of engagement in the fourth quarter of 2026, a first report to Council in the first quarter of 2027 and a final report in the second quarter of 2027.
Also coming to Council
The Burlington Transit Strategic Plan, which will guide transit service for 2026 to 2030, is listed for a final report to committee and Council in the first quarter of 2027, after public meetings and a survey in the fall of 2025.
