What is the 2026 residential property tax rate in Burlington?
The City's 2026 final residential (R-T) rate is 0.01015281 in the urban area. Rural properties pay 0.00945872 where the bill shows "N" (rural garbage services) and 0.00948745 where it shows "G" (urban garbage services). The rates for City and Regional purposes follow from the two councils' budgets, and the Province sets the education rate.
How much is that per $100,000 of assessment, and how is it split?
For every $100,000 of urban residential assessment, 2026 property taxes are $1,015.29: $528.11 to the City of Burlington, $334.18 to Halton Region (which includes police services) and $153.00 to the boards of education. The City publishes the split as 52 per cent City, 33 per cent Halton Region and 15 per cent education.

The overall increase for residents is 4.50 per cent, or $43.71 for every $100,000 of residential assessment. The City of Burlington's own budget rose 5.81 per cent, Halton Region's 4.60 per cent and education 0 per cent; the City says its portion of the total tax increase is 2.98 per cent. Council concluded the 2026 budget at a Special Meeting of Council on 2 December 2025.
The City's budget page still shows the earlier figures of 5.80 per cent, 4.49 per cent and $43.68; the property tax bill page gives the final 5.81 per cent, 4.50 per cent and $43.71.
For 2026, an urban home assessed at $500,000 pays $2,640.55 to the City. The City breaks that down as $873.62 for community services, $677.71 for funding the capital program, $494.56 for public works, $312.80 for enabling services, $167.11 for local boards and other agencies, $62.94 for legal and legislative services and $58.97 for development and growth management, less $7.16 in corporate revenues and expenditures.
The City sends two bills a year with four payments. The 2026 final bill's instalments are due 23 June 2026 and 23 September 2026. The interim bill, produced in January and based on half of last year's taxes, has two instalments typically in the third weeks of February and April. On the 10-month pre-authorized plan, taxes are withdrawn on the first day of each month from January to October.
Payments must reach the City by the due date. The City adds a 1.25 per cent penalty on the first day of default, and 1.25 per cent interest on the last day of each month on the outstanding balance.
By pre-authorized payment plan. Through your bank, by telephone or online banking, using the five- to seven-digit tax account number at the top right of your bill. By cheque mailed to City of Burlington, PO Box 5080, 426 Brant St., Burlington, ON L7R 4G4, or left with the bill's remittance stub in the drop box at the Locust Street entrance of City Hall or the blue drop box outside 390 Brant St. In person at the Service Burlington counter at City Hall, by cheque or debit. The City does not take credit cards directly; third-party services such as PaySimply, Plastiq and Paymentus can pay on your behalf, for a fee.
Cash is not accepted at City Hall for property tax; pay cash at your bank. If you move within Burlington, you get a new tax account number to update with your bank.
