For the purposes of citizen representation on Burlington Council, the City of Burlington is divided into six wards. Each ward is represented by a councillor.

How representation works
Mayor
Presides over City Council meetings and acts as the municipality's chief executive officer. The Mayor also participates as a member of Council for Halton Region.
Councillor
Represents the ward on City Council. Each ward councillor also participates as a member of Council for Halton Region.
Halton Regional Council
The Regional Municipality of Halton is made up of The City of Burlington, Town of Halton Hills, Town of Milton and Town of Oakville. Eligible voters in these communities elect individuals to sit on their local councils, and some of these local councillors also sit on Halton Regional Council.
7 of its 24 members (2023-2026 term) are Burlington council members: Marianne Meed Ward (Mayor), Kelvin Galbraith (Councillor, Ward 1), Lisa Kearns (Councillor, Ward 2), Rory Nisan (Councillor, Ward 3), Shawna Stolte (Councillor, Ward 4), Paul Sharman (Councillor, Ward 5) and Angelo Bentivegna (Councillor, Ward 6).
Halton Regional Chair for the 2023-2026 term: Gary Carr. Following the adoption of the Better Regional Governance Act, 2026, the Halton Regional Chair is now a Provincially appointed position and will not appear on the ballot.
