The details

What the festival is

Burlington Public Library says its sixth Burlington Literary Festival, BurlLITFest, runs the entire month of November. In its October 14 announcement, the library said every event is free to attend and a Burlington Public Library card is not required. Registration opened on October 21 at noon, and the library says events fill quickly. Its festival page adds that, because of demand, registration for some events is limited to one guest per attendee.

As of the evening of October 28, the library's registration pages listed six events as full: the Barclay & Brown, Jesse Wente and Hazel Mae talks, the Small Sparks, Big Truths and Objects as Story Inspiration workshops, and The Storybook Garden Journals. Of those, only Objects as Story Inspiration offered a waitlist. The talks by Lesley Megarry, Terry Fallis and Will Ferguson, Antonio Michael Downing and Kelly Anderson, the Finding Your Ending workshop and Louder Than a Firecracker still showed seats. Availability changes as people register and cancel, so check each event's page.

The Open Mic and two online talks

  • The festival closes with the BurlLITFest Open Mic on Sunday, November 29, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Centennial Hall at Central Library. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for sign-up, performers go on stage in the order they sign up, and each gets 250 words or four minutes. The library says it may not reach everyone on the list in 90 minutes, and audience members are welcome.
  • Two virtual talks run through the library's Library Speakers Consortium service: Asha Frost on Tuesday, November 3 at 2 p.m., and Rebecca Roanhorse on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m. The library says each can be watched any time after the event date.
