The details

Where and when results appear

The City of Burlington says unofficial results for the 2026 municipal election will begin appearing after polls close at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26, at myvote.burlington.ca/results (the City's printed address, myvoteburlington.ca/results, redirects there). Voters are choosing a Mayor, six ward Councillors and school board trustees.

  • Results are posted in batches as they become available, and the City says it expects all unofficial results by 10 p.m.
  • The results page updates automatically, so there is no need to refresh it; the City warns that delays between updates are expected.
  • Election results are unofficial until certified by the City Clerk, who declares the official results as soon as possible after Voting Day. The City says those will be shared on the same website.
  • The City will also publish results in a machine-readable file for accredited media.

Voting Day: where and when

On Monday, October 26, there are 24 in-person voting locations, four in each ward. An elector can vote at any location in their own ward between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., and all locations are accessible. The City says voters should bring their Voter Information Letter and one piece of identification showing their name and address, but the letter is not required to vote in person. The 2026 election uses new ward boundaries, so the City's Find My Ward map is the way to check which ward you vote in.

Online voting ends October 25

Online voting was originally scheduled to close on October 23. On October 20 the City extended it to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, after it became aware of a mailing error that left about 5,000 Voter Information Letters undelivered to Ward 6 households. The letter is required to vote online. Electors who have not received theirs can call 905-335-7777, ext. 8683, to have one issued. The advance polls on October 17 and 20 are over, so once online voting closes, the remaining chance to vote is in person on Voting Day.

After election night

Candidates in the 2026 election were certified by the City Clerk on August 21. The Mayor and Councillors also represent Burlington on Halton Regional Council. In its September 29 decision highlights, the City said the new Council will be sworn in on November 16 for the 2026-2030 term, at an inauguration open to the public at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, with details to be confirmed.
