Kindergarten registration for September 2027 is open at both Burlington school boards: who is eligible and what to bring
The Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board are both taking Kindergarten registrations for 2027-2028. Children must be four (Year 1) or five (Year 2) by December 31, 2027.
The details
Who can register
Both boards that serve Burlington say registration for Kindergarten in the 2027-2028 school year is open. The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) announced it in a release dated October 20, 2026; the Halton District School Board (HDSB) says on its Kindergarten page that registration is now open, and said in September that families could register starting in October.
- The child must be 4 years old on or before December 31, 2027
- The child must be 5 years old on or before December 31, 2027
The HDSB adds that a child already attending Year 1 Kindergarten in an HDSB school does not need to register again for Year 2. The HCDSB describes its program as a full-day, two-year Kindergarten; the HDSB describes full-day Kindergarten, five days a week, led by a team that includes a certified teacher and a Designated Early Childhood Educator.
Halton District School Board
- Families begin by following the board's instructions to register a child for school, in person or through the online pre-registration form on the HDSB website.
- The board says families then complete the Kindergarten Parent Questionnaire online or in person starting in January, and look for an email confirming registration.
- The board asks families to report the child's immunizations through Halton Region (or call 311).
- Its Welcome Centre registers Kindergarten students in some cases, including where a parent holds a work permit and is registering their first child with the board, or where the parent or child holds a study permit or visa.
- For Burlington schools the board lists extension 4458 on its main line, 905-335-3663.
Halton Catholic District School Board
The HCDSB registers Kindergarten children online, and parents can upload the required documents through the registration portal. It lists these as required:
- A birth certificate, required for both Year 1 and Year 2.
- A Roman or Eastern Rite Catholic baptismal certificate for the student or a parent. The board says a child with no such certificate may be admitted if one parent can provide one, and points to its Operating Policy I-22 for more information.
- Proof of address.
Families with older children already at the school may upload documents or bring them in. For families new to a school, the board says in-person proof of parent or guardian identification is mandatory: schools contact families to arrange a time to meet the school secretary or office staff and confirm the documents.
